What is a Flash Website?

Flash is animated content which requires the Adobe Shockwave Flash Player browser plugin to display "SWF" Flash Movies in web browsers.

Get Adobe Flash Player

Developers can create and publish Flash movies using special Flash programmes to manipulate vector and rastor graphics with a scripting language called "ActionScript" to produce interactive multi media content for websites, mobile phones and other devices.

MSEYE use the Adobe Flash Professional multimedia authoring program.

Most new browsers already have the Flash plugin installed and there are many design advantages to using Flash, not least the excellent animations and multi media effects that can be achieved, including streaming Flash Video "FLV" movies.

Flash movies can also be published in a "standalone" self executing Flash Player with the .exe extension, although there are different players for different platforms.

Flash can be embedded into HTML pages much like an image, or we can construct an entire site in Flash.

However when a site is constructed entirely in Flash, it means the content is not readily available to search engines by conventional means, which can be a problem for high search positions on the results pages of websites like Google.

If the website is to be entirely constructed in Flash, we need to think about how the content can be presented to search engines to ensure the site is listed in results, and there are ways we can achieve this.

This is an example of a website made entirely in Flash:
